There’s mystery in their name. There’s magic in their
performance. They are no less than wonders, Robin N’ Looza.
Their first album Nepal packaged soulful
songs of Arun Thapa, Danny and Om Bikram Bista as Nepali Blues. Few
people, then, knew about Blues and enjoyed remixes. Therefore, it was quite
a venture to release Nepal amidst such an audience. But they
ventured, and they gained. Nepali audience would appreciate any music new
one on them. As a result, Robin N’ Looza reached eminence with their first
album itself.
But they had as many critics as
fans. And so, it wasn’t very easy in the beginning. People argued their
music was unbecoming for a Nepali band, mainly because of the wacky lyrics
and incorrect pronunciations. Admittedly, the band defied norms and
structure of traditional Nepali music with weird, funny lyrics and
erroneous pronunciations but it must also be remembered that they play a
different genre of music… And that rules are different for different games!
The Robins have muzzled
their critics with their ever-increasing following. People go to their
concerts safe in the knowledge that they’ll have a good time, and Robin,
the vocalist, uses every trick in the book to entertain them. He kicks
around corner to corner urging the crowd on, whacks his shirt and flaunts
himself, mingles with his fans and even cracks jokes between the songs.
It’s great fun to watch him on stage. Besides a good sense of humor, Robin
is also endowed with inimitable voice and style.
Till today, Robin N’ Looza hold a modest set of three
albums- Nepal, Aadhunik Aaganma and
Bhulma Bhulyo. Don’t expect them to rush out three or four albums a
year! (like some new solo artistes have done) They go with quality and are
pretty choosy about their songs.
Nepalisite.com congratulates Robin N’ Looza on becoming
our Artist of The Month for March and wishes them well in their career.
Nepalisite.com also thanks RNL for their support and cooperation.....Sudarsun
