Tridrujya Band

Raj DC’s friend Bijaya Thapa, his buddy from their days in Arniko Boarding School in Biratnagar, used to write nice poems and songs during school. After the final decision with Carolyn, DC asked Bijaya to write one song. Bijaya wrote a song the same day. The friends went to Samraat Thapa, who lived near DC’s place in Ghattekulo. Samraat Thapa composed music for the song within two days and gave the singers the track, including a rough draft of the vocals. DC and Carolyn practiced the song for a day and took time at a studio where Samraat Thapa was involved, called Om Megha Digital Studio, at Dilli Bazaar.

Bijay and DC used to dream of making albums during their school days. When they were I Sc. Students, the dream caught on strongly. But Bijay soon after left for Russia for his MBBS, and DC went to B. Sc. Again. After an unsuccessful attempt at the Pulchowk Engineering College for a degree in Civil Engineering, DC found a career with the hospitality business. In any event, they recorded the song called “Chuk chuk relai” within a week after conceiving the idea. They were very happy when they heard their song in Kathmandu FM on that same day it was recorded.
They were really happy—Bijaya, DC and Carolyn. Till that time they still did not know that they would sing more . Many friends and well wishers suggested them to record more songs and to go for an entire album. The trio decided to go for it. Bijay started writing other songs. They got nice media coverage for their only song. Carolyn had to go to Jomsom for a few weeks. So, she took the track of other new songs with her, in order to practice the songs and return ready. The confidence she showed was really amazing. Although DC had many problems in the studio during the recording sessions, she had no problem whatsoever. She has a great knowledge of the piano, and she is well versed in the western classical music tradition, but DC never had any musical training. Bijaya plays the guitar and the drums, but Raj DC hardly plays any instrument, which is a subject of humility and embarrassment to him.
There were a few phonetic problems with Carolyn in the first song “Chuk chuk relai le.” There is the word “Pasupati” in the song, which she pronounced “Bhasupari.” The song goes thus:

DC:
pahilo najar barpipal chaya lai
dosro najar naulo yo maya lai
kaudi khelai le
malai udayo chuk chuk relai

Carolyn:
mutu mathi lau hath rakhera
maya lagau bhasuparu bhakera [instead of Pshupati]
kaudi khelaiu le
malai ruwayo timro maiai le

DC had some problem in the studio, like nervousness, etc., but for Carolyn it was easy. Finally Carolyn had to leave for USA for her study, so the trio decided to release the album after her departure. The days passed on with a different plan to release but finally it was decided to release after her return to Nepal again. There were seven songs but it was decided that the album needed a minimum of eight songs. The days passed on without proper decision regarding whose song would have to be included as the last song. Carolyn also tried to add to the album, but finally Bijaya had to sing one of his new solo songs, which he did with his own music. Thus, the total of eight songs. DC went on a search for distributors, but everybody told them to release the album after few months. They, however, were determined to release before Carolyn’s departure.

Another important thing was that DC wanted to make the music video himself, without the help of a distributor. Since Carolyn was not available as she had to go to eastern Nepal, Angie, her roommate was chosen for the video.
In the mean time they got an offer to sing at a charity show at the Royal Academy, for assistance of the legendry singer Prem Prakash Malla. It was DC’s first stage show besides singing songs at the bar. The program was hugely successful and Carolyn and DC were very excited. Finally they chose the Yuppies Media and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, which is a new firm, for their new album as their distributor. The album was released on 14th August at the Darbar Hotel by special guest, the legendary singer Phateman Singh Rajbhandari.
