Interview...In his own
words |
-
How and when did your
musical career began?
-
It was back in
2055 B.S. I started as a hobby then I got
intoxicated into it and now I take this as my
career. First I was involved with a local band
in Chitwan named Octave-C which had 5 members
but now I am doing solo.
-
How is your parents'
support?
-
At beginning I
didn’t get any support but now they are very
positive. Maybe seeing my success.
-
What is the difficult
thing in being an artist or staying as an artist?
-
As
an artist we have to concentrate in good
creation. Audience has given us a task of creating
better songs so we have to work and think day
and night.
-
Are you thinking of
making this as an career?
-
Yes definitely and
fully.
-
Any effect on music
due to the situation of the country?
-
Definitely. Album
selling is slow. We have not been able to send
albums to various destinations and if we send
too we are not being able to send timely. There
is communication gap and we have not been able
to get news and many concerts & shows also have
been affected.
-
There are so many
artists/bands coming out these days. How do you plan
to be different?
-
Well I am going in
different pattern and I am also coming up with
extra lyrics.
-
Do you compose your
own music? If so, then what is the process? Do you
first come up with music or lyrics?
-
Yes. First I come
up with lyrics then I tune up together and after
I feel satisfied I go to studios for recording.
-
What is a process for
you to sing a song? For example if someone composes
a song, and presents to you-then how do you take
that song and sing? How do you accept songs?
-
First I see the
theme of the song then lyrics and composition.
If I am satisfied then I accept that song and I
give bit of my own style to the song.
-
You know media has
been a big part these days. How is media helping? Is
it true that if you have money then you will be
popular?
-
Yes, FM’s Paper,
TV, websites all are supporting me from
everywhere.
No its not true. Its an art & it can’t be
compared with money. If money played a role then
Bill gates would have been a popular singer or
artist.
-
Recording music, and
making music videos comes with cost. How do you
manage to do all that, since you are new into the
industry.
-
All by myself. All
my recordings and music video budget are managed
by myself and from parents.
-
Your first album
Canvas...what’s the reason behind that name?
-
Through Canvass I
am asking for musical vote. Canvass is the place
to demonstrate art. So I too am demonstrating my
art in a canvass and asking for vote… and it
might be in my favor or against.. its up to
audience to vote by accepting me or rejecting
but till now I am satisfied with voting.
-
Your favorite song in
that album? and how hard was it to come up with that
CD?
-
I like all but to
choose one, my favorite song in that album is
“Mera Geet Haru”. That song’s got good lyrics
and strong composition.
Ya it was definitely hard to come up with that
album. I had put my 3 yrs hard labor in that
album.
-
You know there are
many music recording studios these days. And when
you go to such studios and record songs, do you get
what you want?
-
We don’t get what
we want in every studio specially quality and
mixing. We have to be choosy and selective.
Ummmmm For me Music Work is good and I am
satisfied with its quality.
-
How have artists
contributed to helping out given the difficult
situation of our country? If yes then , what have
they been into? Both in the past and present times.
May be through songs of unity and common
understanding? Or even reaching out to the villages?
-
Yap artists have
contributed to help current situation of the
country by giving voice. Yes its hard to do
shows in remote areas but still we are doing our
best. For instance, we are
doing a show to raise voice for children after
March 8th. We are
doing a show to collect fund for Tsunami victims
on 8th March in Pokhara as well. And I have done many
charity shows for free.
-
How has the influence
of western influence in Nepali musical scene?
What do you think about it?
-
Yes there is great
influence of western instruments and patterns in
Nepali pop. They are used well in Nepali music.
-
What's your stand on
typical Nepali folk songs that tend to represent
Nepali customs ,values and traditions?
-
No. I am only into
Nepali pop Music.
-
What's is your idea on
for future Nepali music promotion?
-
There should be
good support to good music, talents, good
compositions etc so that focus will be on good
songs.
-
Any thing you would
like to tell about your family...
-
Dad- Bhumeraj Giri
–Businessman
Mom- Mini Giri – House wife
Big Brother- Dipesh Giri – Job holder plus
student
Me- into music.
-
What is your thoughts
on piracy, copyright issues? What could be done to
protect?
-
Its bad. To
protect we should request not to do piracy, and
if still they do piracy then they should be
punished. And copyright act should be
implemented strongly.
-
What are your future
plan in terms of music?
-
To be a good
arranger and continue bringing out good albums.
-
Any thing you would
like to add or you think that we would have asked
you?
-
About new artists.
You should support new artists because they come
with their own aim/goal and media like u should
support as much to fulfill their aim/goal.
--What is your next biggest passion ?
To be a good A-level singer. I will be coming up
with my regular albums. My next album will be in
2062 B.S.
