Why was it formed?
Our slogan is “in music we believe”
for us music is our faith.
Who came up with the name and why "KOSHI"?
I (Rajan) came up with the name for a metaphoric reason-- “river is always
flowing, but it is always there.”
How is the reaction in Hawaii?
Our audience characterized our music
as the fusion of eastern (spiritual) philosophical & lyrical style with
the hybrid of western neo alternative rock music. Our songs have been
played at the local alternative radio stations including Star 101.9,
KPOI, KTUH and university radio stations to mention a few. We have also
been featured on local TV stations including
Olelo channel, Channel 52, Channel 53. We did a film scoring for film
Honolulu festival and one of our singles “In mistletoe garden” shot by
Mr. Mike Regan, an independent movie director. In 1998, when we
performed live in Aloha Towers concert, we were also asked to open up
for “Rage Against the
Machine”.
What kind of music do you guys play? Any
Nepalese
number?
We play neo alternative rock music. To
be more precise, I would call it “post-grunge” genre. Since grunge died
a decade ago along in April 1994
along with the legend Kurt D. Cobain. Nirvana opened the doors to
thousands of bands and KOSHI happen to be one of them. We have over 30
songs, but only 11 have been recorded. When I am at home by my self, I
have composed 9 Nepali songs. After upgrading our studio, we will upload
them on our site ;)
I am also the only Nepali band member in the band. Stan (drums) comes
from Indonesia and Matt (bass) comes from US. We are working with two
more members Charlie Shackford (DJ) and Kirk Paterson (Spanish Lead
Guitarist) who happen to be Americans. They are joining KOSHI this
summer.
What's your daily routine like?
I guess, I live life of an average
person who happens to wake up at 7am, then go to work out at the Y and
then swim. After that I attend work from 10 till 6 (ecommerce
developer). Then I go to Borders bookstores to study & drink plenty of
de-café coffee. I come home around 9ish and then have my dinner with my
girlfriend Maria (from Spain/we live together) & who also happens to be
a great chef ;) Then I watch TV till 11ish and then write songs till
12am or 2am.
I also would like to add… my girlfriend Maria misses her mom, family &
home (Spain) very much. And although I was raised in Hong Kong since I
was five,
I hope to return back to by birthplace, Nepal at some point in life...
to help… to develop…to help my dad’s school

So we both have happily decided to go take our different course in life
where our destiny will take us. Even though that there is so much love,
sometimes life will give yet take away things from us. I guess such is
called living. A lot of my inspiration in music comes from this
experience. Life is too short to make enemies or create hate for
each-other. Some things in life, you do things alone in “solitude”… not
even your most loved ones can come along with you…. Like in birth, in
death… but the music will always be there to comfort you through this
journey and smoothly transcend into another dimension. It
is always flowing, and it is always there. So, in music we believe!
