Event: McDowell's
No.1 presents Experience D' Idols Live in concert
featuring Indian Idol Prashant Tamang, Amit Paul, Charu Semwal
along with our own Kranti Ale, Anil Singh, Mingma Sherpa and Kid
Soul.
Together with many (or all) of you, I joined in the hysteria of
Indian Idol III this summer. Watching Ruba Ru Thursdays, competition
Fridays and collectively holding breath on Saturdays to see if
Prashant Tamang proceeds to next round. Rest is, as Udit Narayan
said, "geography" – or history, as others would accurately say.
Together with a few friends, Sonam Lama, Chandra Prakash Sharma and
Kashish Shrestha, I now join hands in bringing this Indian Idol 3
winner to the United States for, what we hope to be, four
extraordinary shows – in Washington, D.C. on December 1st, Boston,
Massachusetts on December 2nd, New York City on December 8th and
Atlanta, Georgia, on December 9th, 2007.
Performing together with Prashant Tamang will be our own heart-throb
and very talented Raju Lama of Mongolian Heart Band fame. And
depending on the local organizers' wishes and budgets, more artists
may join them.
Since I am also part of the local organizing team for New York City,
I will let you know of other artists that are scheduled to perform
on Saturday, December 8th, 2007 at Jacob K. Javits Center. Again,
scheduled to perform, (as of writing this e-mail), with Prashant
Tamang and Raju Lama, are Sapana Shree, Rajesh Payal Rai and Tsering
Gyurmey, a very talented Tibetan singer. We are also in a process of
featuring an Indian artist, who is very popular among not only
Indians in the U.S. but also in Europe and India.
I and my fellow organizers are looking forward to putting up the
best show(s) we know how. But, we are also very aware of the fact
that the shows won't be successful unless many came to see them and
without the help of many of you – my friends and family.
Tickets will go on sale Thursday, November 15th, at many stores in
Queens and Manhattan. If you can help sell tickets for us, that
would be very much appreciated. Please write to me and I'll arrange
to bring tickets to you. Tickets in New York are $40 and $60. For
each $40 ticket sold, you can keep $2.00 and for $60, $3.00 (sell
twenty of either of them and one ticket for you will be paid for) –
just as a small token of gratitude to you for your generous help.
We will also need some help at the Javtis Center for the NY show on
December 8th. If you can be available to help, please let me know,
and I will gladly assign you a task that you may enjoy.
For those of you who are in the other venues, please do all you can
to make it a success there also. And to those who are in none of
these four cities, I invite you to come to one of them – for one
unforgettable evening.
We are also hosting a dinner with Prashant, Raju and other artists
on Friday, December 7th, 2007 at Himalayan Yak Restaurant to
coincide with the 'grand opening' of Yak's 2nd floor party hall. For
$150, you will not only get to have dinner with Prashant and other
artists, but also get a VIP pass to the show next day. Please, try
to purchase this ticket as it is going to be a very special night
for all of you passionate fans of Prashant Tamang.

Details:
The movie, Karma –
A Journey to Consciousness, is directed by Tsering Rhitar
Sherpa, under whose belt is Mukundo, which was Nepal's Official
Entry for Academy Awards (OSCAR) in Best Foreign Language Film
in 2000. His documentary The Spirit Doesn't Come Anymore, won
Best Film Award, Film South Asia (Festival of South Asian
Documentary Films), Kathmandu, Nepal in 1997 and Best Indigenous
Filmmaker of the Year, Parnu Anthropological Film Festival,
Estonia in 1998.
Other critically acclaimed body of work includes, Tears of
Torture, a documentary film about a Tibetan nun who crossed snow
passes and Chinese police check posts to escape from Tibet on
foot, Highway to Hell, about trafficking of girls from Nepal to
India, Dignity in Exile, a documentary film about the
renaissance of Tibetan culture in exile.
His latest film, which is not yet released, Karma; is a feature
film about two Buddhist nuns from a remote nunnery in Mustang
region of Nepal, who are sent down to track an elusive local
businessman and recover the money that he owes to the nunnery.
This film is 90 minutes long and is in Tibetan and Nepali with
English subtitle.
As the movie wraps its tour of North America, which is organized
by Ex-Mussoori Alumni Association of Nepal (www.exmussoorie.com),
to benefit their project "Home Away from Home", it makes it
final stop in New York, before it heads back to Nepal for its
official release to the general public.
I have arranged for Karma to be screened in Eagle Theater in
Jackson Heights in Queens, New York. It will be shown on Sunday,
October 1, 2006 – at 1:00 P.M., 3:00 P.M., 5:00 P.M. and 7:00
P.M. Tickets are only $10.00.
As friends (and families) of mine, you are hereby requested to
give me a helping hand by doing whatever you can to make this a
grand success. What can you do, you may ask. Here is my wish
list.
1. Organize among your friends to go to the movies together and
order tickets from me or buy them from others who approach you.
(You're welcome to buy them online by logging on to
SherpaKyidug.org/karma and pay by Paypal or any major credit
cards).
2. Help me sell tickets to your friends and family. Write to me
and I'll arrange to hand you over some tickets.
3. Spread the word.
I may or may not have been of any help to others in the past. I
can't even assure you if I can be of any assistance to anyone in
the future either. But, let me be the first one to ask you for
your hand – as I have taken this responsibility to make Karma's
screening a grand success, I am very aware of the fact that it
is just not possible without the unconditional support by
friends (and family) like you.
I look forward to positive responses from you, and seeing you
all do whatever you can to make me look good. Can I have your
assurance on that?
