NTV’s gracious Rachana Singh
hosted the silver jubilee celebration of Siam Beauty Saloon—it a teeming hall, Mrs. Kamala Shrestha was shown the
kind of praise and love from people whose lives she had touched
that is reserved only for the truly deserving. Twenty five years
of hard work was testified for—her very first client, a
professor at TU, recounted her first visit, and how she has been
utterly devoted to Mrs. Shrestha ever since. Various beauty
queens, actresses and many, many women from all walks of life
praised Mrs. Shrestha to the point that she wept tears of
gratitude and love.
Mrs. Shrestha opened with a speech to the very crowded hall in
Hotel Bluestar, after which she demonstrated various
hairstyles—both traditional Nepali ways of arranging the hair in
a bun, especially for the bride, and more popular modern styles.
The models were not professional fashion models, but your
average housewives and women who are among Mrs. Shrestha’s
clientele.
The function also involved the publishing of Smarika. The queue
at the lunch lines demonstrated the immense popularity of Mrs.
Shrestha among her clients, and her students who are now
professional beauticians. A demonstration of various hair styles
and facials, etc. followed the lunch, after which the songs and
dances were performed. Manju Thapa and Kishor Shahi—who sang
both the male and female parts of his song—brought the crowd on
their feet. Another round of designs, also without professional
models, but with the average children, housewives and their
husband, was displayed before yet another musical break when
“Aisa Jadoo Dala Re” by Srijan rocked all the audience and
participants. Saral Babu brought much laughter into the hall
with his biting caricatures.
It was the crowd of the beautician from valley as well as from
Janakpur, Butwal, Pokhara, Syangja, Assam (India), Nepalgunj.
One beautician from Janakpur could not get a bus ticket, so she
came on a motorbike driven by her husband. Another beautician
from Butwal took three days to reach Kathmandu, but she braved
the inconveniences, and reached the function just to see Mrs.
Shrestha personally, and get photographed with her teacher and
idol. Dabur Vatika Miss Nepal 2004 (Payal Shakya) spoke in
praise of Mrs. Kamala Shrestha. She spoke about Mrs. Shrestha
giving the beauty queens training in beauty and skin care even
after the contest, and in preparation for China to participate
in the Miss World contest.
Popular actress Melina Manandhar was also there. The event was
covered extensively by the media. The Himalayan Times, Annapurna
post, Kantipur, all published congratulatory messages on behalf
of Dabur Nepal. The hotel hall was so crowded that there was
barely any standing space. Presents, felicitation and
tamrapatras, and shawls all were presented to Mrs. Shrestha.
Even Radisson Hotel presented the beauty icon with a shawl and
presents.
The atmosphere was so emotional that Mrs. Kamala Shrestha could
not control her emotions any longer and started weeping. All
speakers praised her courage and determination. They recounted
the challenges she had had to face, and then praised her
achievements. It was a moment of pride and satisfaction for
everybody present.

Vatika Miss Nepal 2004 did not fail to attract irate women's
rights activists protesting against the beauty pageant. More
than 500 protestors started from Bijulibajar and marched to BICC
in Baneshwor, where they burned the welcome gate to the venue
before a calm deployment of police. As the protestors shouted
slogans like “NARI ASHMITA LAI BECHNA PAIDANA--KATHIT SUNDARI
PRTIYOGITA CHHIDAINA,” 18 beautiful Nepali women strutted their
stuff inside the convention hall, reaching their Nepali audience
live via Nepal Television. As the protestors emphasized on how
such events presented women as consumer commodities, and how the
very notion of beauty pageants is an affront by degenerative
western values, participants struggled to validate their
exercise by striving for world peace and bringing an iota of
Nepalipan to their acts.
The program
kicked-off at 4:30 with the 18 contestants appearing on the
stage, gorgeously made-up and sporting colorful western dresses.
The entire troupe of contestants did a Salsa number, and looked
very pretty as they executed the routine perfectly. During the
break between rounds, various dance troupes and cine-artists of
repute kept the buzz alive with numerous heart-stealing dances.
The second round of the contest was followed by the Best Dress
round, where the contestants presented themselves in dresses of
their choice--for which the contestants had to choose their own
design and fabric. After that colorful round, the Title Awards
were handed out to various winning contestants by the board of
directors of Hidden Treasure, the organizers. The MC for the
night then announced contestants numbered 1, 4, 9, 12, 13, 14,
15, 16, 17 and 18 as the final 10, to compete for the title.
The judges who
were to question the finalists were chosen by a lucky draw--but
the draws proved sometimes unlucky for the contestants, much to
the embarrassment of the organizers and judges. When Judge Mrs.
Lisa Choegyal asked a question to Jigme, contestant number 9,
Jigme was unable to answer the question owing to nervousness.
Similarly, when Judge Nalina Chitrakar asked Bimina Ranjit,
contestant number 15, “Who was the legendary king of Nepal?”
Ranjit was unable to understand Nalina Chitrakar's question,
whereupon Chitrakar changed the question entirely. It was
painfully evident that the contestants were not quite as
polished with their intellects as they were with their looks,
and the fabled marriage of beauty and brains was nowhere to be
perceived.
Contestants numbered 1, 12, 14, 17, and 18 were announced as the
final five at the beginning of the third round. Of the final
five, Anita Gurung was crowned the second runner-up. Sarah
Gurung was crowned the runner-up, and Payal Shakya bagged the
coveted crown as Dabur Vatika Miss Nepal 2004.
The winners were awarded cash prizes: NRs 50,000 for the title
winner, 25,000 for the runner up and 15,000 for the second
runner up. The winners of other titles like Miss Beautiful Hair,
Miss Best Complexion, Miss Natural talent, Miss Beautiful Dabur
Lal Toothpaste Smile, etc. were awarded cash prizes of NRs.
5,000 each. Dabur Vatika, a division of Dabur, makers of herbal
medicines and cosmetics, were the sponsors for the event.
The crown for
Miss Nepal was hand over by former Miss Nepal Preeti Situala,
and Numa Rai respectively to the new Miss Nepal and runner up. A
horde of former Miss Nepal beauty-queens like Ruby Rana, Usha
Khadgi, Sweta Singh, Nilima Gurung, and Malvika Subba sharing
their views about the contest--reminiscing about their days as
contestants and shedding lights on broader issues pertaining to
the beauty industry of Nepal.
The most
animated presence was that of Mr. Raj Bhai Suwal, the official
photographer to the event, who was seen very busy kicking out
the swarm of unofficial photographers intruding into his
rightful territory. Rachana Gurung was the choreographer for the
event. Prashant and Bhumika brought their talents to the event
with impeccable Emceeing, while the talents of beautician Kamala
Shrestha. and the designs of Sanyukta pleased the eyes of the
viewers present, and through the live broadcast, viewers at
large.

Sixteen models from all
over the country participated at MR. NEPAL 2003 on March 5, 2004
at Birendra International Convention Center, Kathmandu. The
honorable chief guest/judge for the event was the President of
National Democratic Party (Nationalist group) Mr. Rajeshwor
Devkota. Six other renowned personalities formed the main panel
of judges.
Out of sixteen, ten
contestants most impressed the judges with their introduction to
qualify for the second round. The best five contestants from the
second round then compete for the title of MR. NEPAL 2003.
Nirustej Niraula became the second runner up; Kamal Ojha, the
first Runner up and Gautam Subedi claimed the coveted title of
MR. NEPAL 2003.
The event also featured
a dazzling display of ladies’ fashion wear designed by THE
CREATION, an enthralling yodel performed by Kamal Man Singh and
two exciting dance performances.

"Dabur Vatica
Miss Nepal 2003" concluded on Sept 13th. Before the
event started there was a demonstration by members of "Kranrti
Kari Mahila Sangh" protesting against the Miss Nepal
pageant.
They even tried to enter the main gate but were stopped by
police. Police arrested more than two dozens of
protestors, and few were injured. Tara Neupana, an active
member of this association was seriously injured and is going
under treatment at a local hospital. Mr. Rajbhansi told
Nepalisite that they were not aware of the demonstration before
hand.
Despite the protest, the show continued 30 minutes behind
schedule with Nima Rumba entertaining the audience with his song
"Oh Aauna" while the contestants were involved in Dress Rounds.
After the "Best Dress Round", all the participants introduced
themselves, followed by Nima singing his song "Lolita."
Top ten semi finalists were then chosen. Following were
the top 10 semi finalists :-

There was a "question and answer" round where judges asked some

followed by an announcement of results of Miss Nepal 2003 beauty

Senior Beautician of Nepal, Mrs. Kamala Shrestha, the only and
first school of its kind approved by the council of Technical
Education and Vocational Training, His Majesty's Government of
Nepal; Siam Hair Cutting School will be distributing
Certificates to the students from 21st batch on successfully
completing the course. More than 1000 students have
completed the training from this school up to date. Students from this
school have gone to various parts of Nepal and countries like
USA, Russia, UK, Australia, Burma, India, and Germany.

"MISS
NEPAL 2003" will be held on September 13th at Birendra
International Convention Center, Kathmandu. "Miss Nepal
2003" is brought to you by "The Hidden Treasures" and "Kathmandu
Jaycees." The event is sponsored by "Dabur Nepal" with
Colgate as co-sponsor. Winner of the contest will get an
opportunity to represent Nepal for Miss World 2003, whereas the
first runner up will
get an opportunity to compete for Miss
Asia Pacific Quest, in Nov 2003. Click

Ayusha Wins World Miss
University 2003 |
|
For the first time in history
of Nepal, Miss Ayusha Shrestha (Age 17) has won the title of
"World Miss University", that was held in South Korea, where
participants from over 40 countries were present. Ayusha
won $5000 and one year as an ambassador to UN. Miss
Florina Curerlea (Moldova) was first runner up whereas Miss
Medha Ragunath (India) was second runner up. Ayusha was
also a winner of Miss College Nepal 2003. Click

WELLA--THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN ..July
21st |
|
More than 300 students from
different hair cutting school participated for this event, where
Mr.
Laquai from "Wella", demonstrated different styling
techniques, and the coloring of hair. Mrs. Kamala
Shrestha, a renowned beautician was also present accompanying
Mr. Laquai. Around 100 students from Siam Hair Cutting
School also participated in the event. Students were
impressed with the training.
Second day was followed by a
fashion show organized by "WELLA" at Radisson Hotel.
Grishma, Suchitra, Anjana, Sushma, Noyo, and Sona lama, were the
female models that did the show while Deepak and Prabin were the
male models for the show, that had five sequence.
Singer Prabin Lama and
Sanjeep Lama performed their hit numbers during the break.
Sarita Joshi & Anju
Shrestha were the dress designers while Pratap Singh was the
Choreographer. "Well The Ultimate Show Down" was hosted by
Pragya, R.J from Kantipur F.M.
Raul Vivado, a Regional
Market Manger for "Wella" from Germany told us, that Wella
products is increasing day by day in Nepal, because of shows
like this.

fashion show will be held on July 26th at Holiday Inn Crown
Plaza, and the show starts at 5:30 p.m.
Ticket price is Nrs. 1500 that inlcudes dinner. There will
be musical entertainment as well. Mohan Bhusal, Sanjaya
Khadgi among others will be performing. |

HAIR COLORS" on July 21st , where Mr. Laquai, hair
expert from Germany will be demonstrating "NEW
COLOR TECHNIQUES" based on today's fashion and
trends. Show will be assisted by Nepal's own Senior Beautician
and beauty expert Mrs. Kamala Shrestha from Siam Beauty
Saloon/Siam Hair Cutting School. It will be at Radisson

ENTICER BIKE LAUNCHING PROGRAM ...July 12th |
|
Enticer Bike Launching
program was held on July 12th at Jay Nepal Cinema Hall,
Kathmandu. There was some demonstration by models wearing
biking suit, at the lobby outside the hall before the movie
started. Show was choreographed by Prabin where models
like Arpana, Rajiv, Prabin and Mona were present. Not many

Nils Fashion
show was held on BCCA ground during a fair.
There were round 30 stalls in the fair Maximum
capacity is 200 stalls.
Fashion show
was delayed for 45 minutes.
However, Rojin Shakya, Master of ceremony entertained the
crowd with some funny jokes.
There were 15
male models and 8 female models on the show.
There were some professional models from Kathmandu among
the audience.
When
Nepalisite.com approached them (Pranaya, Prakash, Pawan) on their view on the fashion
show, this is what they had to say—“show’s models didn’t
not have sufficient confidence, while walking on the ramp except
few models. Most
of the models were new, and design also nothing so special like
any other show. Nothing
new. Lack of
management”.
There were
few people actually watching the show.
Lack of media coordination.
One of the
stall (Pashupathi Paints) was also disappointed with the fair.
Fashion
parade was the only attractive event of the day, which ended
with a sequence where the models wore white dress sending a
message of peace. This
last sequence was beautifully choreographed.
