It goes back to high school days (Budhanilkantha School). Nischal Shrestha enrolled in the school in 1987, after finishing some years of schooling in Sikkim. He got involved into music while he was in grade 7. He started to learn and practice guitar. His one of the first teachers and influences was his uncle. He used to give company to someone by playing guitar. |
| Nischal, Badan, Arbin Piya, Yogesh, Suraj Pradhan, and Bipin Piya did a show during “Rakshya Bandan”. They just acted for the song by Ozzy Osborne. Badan made all the fake guitars. It was a blast. |
| Nischal, Badan, and Yogesh then started to practice together. They used to play songs from Scorpions, Deep Purple, Dire Strait, etc. They participated in various occasions. Later on they came up with a name “Zic-Zac.” Anup Kafle along with Ram Khadka used to sing with Zic-Zac. Prashanta Subba, Niraj Shrestha, Gopal Sapkota, Anup Bhattrai, Maneet Dungana, and many more were part of Zic-Zac in some way or the other. |
| After a while, the line up for Zic-Zac changed. It was Projjwal who was the singer, Nischal as a lead guitarist, Yogesh as a rhythm, Lokesh as a Drummer, and Badan as a bass guitarist. The band started to practice English Songs for the concert that they gave at Budhanilkantha School, under a new name Metal Cross. It was a success. They did about 19 songs from bands ranging from New Kids On the Block to Iron Maiden. As time went by, the band started to focus on Nepalese songs, and come up with an album. The line up Metal Cross again changed, with Nischal as lead vocals/lead guitars, Badan as Bass guitarist/back vocals, Lokesh as a drummer. |
| Suraj Rajbhandari, was introduced in the band as a rhythm guitarist, replacing Yogesh Shrestha. The band then started to work on their first album, by composing songs, and practicing them. They then recorded their first album named “Navin”, who was the late brother of Nischal. The album itself was dedicated to Navin. Metal Cross was the first band to be distributed/marketed by Tik’ n’ Tok. The band did pretty well on sale landing on the charts for several months, even at the number 1. |
| The band went to studio to record the second album during august of 93. The band didn’t complete the recording. Shibir was introduced in a band as a key boardist. |
| Despite of the incompleteness of their second album, Nischal started to perform at various conferences in the states. |
| After almost 9 years Nischal has recorded a new Album called "Paari Banma" and is available in the market. Music videos were also done and was aired both on Nepal TV and Channel Nepal. You can also purchase an album online at Nepalisite.com. |
