A Nepali dance group, The Mandala Dance, based in Dallas made history on November 14, becoming the first Nepali dance group to ever perform at an NBA game. A team of 42 dancers, ranging from age 7 to adults, took the court at the American Airlines Center during the Dallas Mavericks vs. LA Clippers matchup, delivering a lively performance that quickly caught the crowd’s attention.
They danced to Nepathya’s hit “Mai Nache Cham Chamti,” bringing Nepali culture onto one of the biggest stages in American sports. This moment adds to a growing list of Nepali-American milestones at major U.S. sporting events — including Parijita Bastola from The Voice singing the national anthem at an MLB Orioles game, and Prakriti Deuja performing the anthem during a Pelicans vs. Wizards matchup about a decade ago.
