Every year thousands of Hindu devotees from all over Nepal and India come to celebrate Maha Shivaratri at Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu.  Shivaratri, also referred to as the Night of Shiva is celebrated on the 14th day of the dark fortnight of the Māgha month, as per the Hindu lunar calendar.” (Welcomenepal)  It was celebrated this year on March 4th.

Shivaratri is also a great way to come in close contact with Sadhus or Hindu Holy men.  Sadhus covered in ash, with their faces smeared with vermilion powder and most importantly Smoking cannabis attracts many worshippers and tourists to Pashupatinath.

Here are some of the photos of Sadhus from Maha Shivaratri 2019 that we selected from few instagramars. All photos were used with permission.
