An 86-year-old mountaineer Min Bahadur Sherchan from Nepal has died at the Everest Base camp on Saturday (May 6th, 2017). He was trying to reclaim the title of the Oldest Climber. It is still not clear for the cause of his death.

The former British Gurkha had set the record in 2008 at the age of 76 becoming the oldest climber. However, that record was broken by Japanese climber Yoichiro Miura who climbed the Everest at the age of 80.

Sherchan had said ‘I will either come back dead, or I will successfully ascend the Mount Everest.’

Sherchan was the second climber to die in 2017 while trying to climb Everest.  Swiss climber Ueli Steck died in April.
