As the world is battling the COVID-19 pandemic, the largest and brightest Supermoon of 2020 lit up the night sky on Tuesday. People all over the world were mesmerized by its illuminating beauty, giving them a good excuse to step out of their homes at least for few minutes to catch a glimpse of April’s full Pink Moon.

April’s full Moon often corresponded with the early springtime blooms of a certain wildflower native to eastern North America: Phlox subulata—commonly called creeping phlox or moss phlox—which also went by the name “moss pink.”

April’s full moon is also a supermoon, was at its closest to Earth in its orbit, making it appear a little brighter and bigger than usual. (
